Chapter Four

Zion sat on the table directly across from Leigha looking her in the eyes. He was trying his best to get her out of the funk that she was currently in. It was their birthday and even though they had just entered into the realm of vulnerability, he didn’t feel as if they shouldn’t celebrate how far they’ve come and the bright future that was ahead.

“Z, I know it’s our birthday, but you know what this day means and so does every other being that wants us gone.” Leigha attempted to get through to him but it was like he wasn’t hearing her.

“Do you know who we are?” Zion stood and began to pace. “As long as we stay together, there is nothing that can happen to us.”

Leigha ran her hands through her hair and threw her head back. An exasperated sigh slipped through her lips as she closed her eyes. Her anxiety was at an all-time high and she hated that. It affected her way of thinking and how quick she was to react, just like earlier that day. She needed a clear mind to do what she needed to do that day and she couldn’t have that if they were galivanting around the town. She needed to be centered so that she could focus on keeping him safe.

“Zion, if you chill, I swear I will tear down the city with you tomorrow but tonight, I say we chill.” Her sympathetic eyes searched his and she got nothing but bullshit. “Z, come on.”

“I’m sorry Leigha, I told you that I would do better if you loosen up some. You being so uptight is going to hurt us more than whatever is rolling around in that mind of yours, Leigha.” He sighed and shook his head. “I’m not sitting in the house on my birthday. I’m going to enjoy it.”

“We are no longer protected Zion, not until midnight and we come full circle into our powers and roles that the universe has set before us. If something happens before that happens then that could mean…” Her words trailed off as she looked down at her phone. “Donovan? Sure, I’ll meet…what the hell is he…” Her eyes went from her phone to Zion who was now whistling and making his way out of her reach.

She threw her hands out and he froze for a second before smiling and running towards his side of the family house.

“Your magic don’t work on the king.” He winked and laughed.

“We’re staying in, Zion.”

“No, we’re not Leigha. I will leave this house without you.” He turned around and gave her a stern look. “Go on and call your little pretty boy and tell him we’ll be heading out in an hour to find outfits for the night.”

“He’s not a pretty boy and I’m warning you, Zion.”

“He is a little softy and your warnings mean nothing to me.”

“He’s a warlock!” She said and Zion’s brows furrowed as he walked back to where she was still standing. He opened his mouth to say something, but she cut him off.
